Don't all great stories start with an e-mail, a chance encounter, or the back of a napkin?
Do Good. Be Kind. is no different. In 2004, our co-founder, Chris, began signing all of his e-mails with Do Good, Be Great. It was a simple moniker; a reminder really, that silently hung onto the end of his outgoing e-mails. Occasionally someone would notice and reply with a, "hey great reminder!" or "interesting e-mail signature."
For 13 years, the tagline remained. Like a comfortable, old shirt that you can't part with.
In February of 2017, as he thought about the mission of his company and the message he wanted to promote, he looked around and thought, "We have enough people striving to be great, what if we simply strive to be kind?" He changed the tagline and hit send.
Soon after, he found a shirt on the kitchen table that his wife had made for him. Emblazoned across the chest was the motto, "Do good. Be kind." That was the message he'd been looking for. That was the motto he wanted to share. He knew this because every time he wore his shirt, something magic happened. He was reminded to be a little kinder and to do good. But the magic didn't end there; people would routinely stop him and ask, "where can I get that shirt?"
Our purpose is simple. We exist to make a difference.
And...it's happening. Every time someone wears Do Good. Be Kind., the same magic happens. We get stories all the time of how it changed someone's day, or their outlook, or their driving, or simply spurred them into action.
One of those stories came from Darren T.; the guitar playing, woodworking artist, husband, and father from Petaluma, CA who owns and operates Reclaimed Sonoma. He summed it up best when he posted:
"GOT STOPPED (AGAIN) IN SOUTH TAHOE TODAY; "MAY I ASK WHERE YOU GOT THAT AWESOME SHIRT?" MY DO GOOD. BE KIND. SHIRT IS MY FAVORITE SHIRT. NOT ONLY IS IT SOFT AND AMAZING BUT I MEET THE NICEST PEOPLE WHENEVER I WEAR IT. AND IF THAT WEREN'T ENOUGH, I JUST TEND TO DO MORE GOOD AND BE MORE KIND WHENEVER I WEAR IT. IT HOLDS ME ACCOUNTABLE TO BE MY BEST."
Thank you, Darren. It holds us accountable too.
Do Good. Be Kind.
